What is UPS?

In the Philippines, where the rainy season lasts for a long time, electricity may be temporarily cut off due to a short circuit in the rainy season or lightning. In addition, there are occasions when we need to temporarily shut off the power due to the electric work, but the state of this power failure is a fatal thing in the computer facility.

So UPS is a must in the enterprise or organization's network.

1. What is a Uninterruptible Power Supply/ Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS)?

Auxiliary power supply that allows the computer to operate perfectly from unwanted power cuts. In other words, it is a power facility that is installed in a facility where the power should not be cut off in any case.

2. Importance of UPS

For example, if there is a power outage while using the hospital's major medical equipment, or if the carrier's server is out of power due to a power outage, or if the elevator of a skyscraper stops while it is still running? And if the bank's network is out of power, the air traffic control system is out of power, and even if Google or Naver goes out of power, tens of millions of people will be uncomfortable, and the damage will be enormous.

It's a big big deal.

Therefore, UPS is installed in all facilities that should not be disconnected from power, and it converts electricity into general electric power by using charged battery for a certain period of power outage. It is similar to ESS (Energy Storage System) but has other aspects.

3.UPS backup time

How many minutes will the politics connected to UPS in case of a power outage endure? That is, how long the UPS can supply power to the unit is called the 'backup time'.

The longer the backup time, the better, but in the long run, the efficiency of the power will deteriorate and it will take a lot of electricity such as battery.

If there is an emergency generator in addition to a UPS, it is not preferable to have a longer backup time because the emergency generator is automatically started and replaced with the UPS power if the power failure lasts more than 20 seconds. However, it is better to have more space in a facility without an emergency generator.
